Michael Lau is Senior Vice President, Group Head of Business Development at Bullish (NYSE:BLSH), overseeing global business development for the entire Bullish group, including the regulated Bullish Exchange, CoinDesk, and CoinDesk Data businesses. He is also Chairman of Consensus, one of the world's largest and longest-running digital asset events.
As Chairman of Consensus, Michael leads strategy and development for CoinDesk’s flagship Web3 conference. In this role, he was at the helm of the conference’s expansion in 2025, which saw events in both Hong Kong and Toronto. The inaugural Consensus Hong Kong, the first large scale event outside of North America, attracted nearly 10,000 attendees and contributed an estimated HKD $275M in economic impact for the city earning a specific named mention in the Hong Kong Financial Secretary’s 2025-2026 Budget Speech. Overall, the combined global Consensus conferences in 2025 attracted over 26,000 registrations from more than 100 countries, with 765 speakers across 10 stages, and the support of over 260 sponsors, making Consensus an important gathering point for industry participants, leaders, and visionaries.
Michael joined the financial services division in early 2020 to lead the institutional sales and marketing for the crypto exchange product now known as Bullish. He has held several roles at Bullish and was most recently Senior Vice President, Global Head of Sales.
With over a decade of experience in traditional capital markets, Michael previously served as Global Chief Marketing Officer of CLSA, where he spearheaded marketing initiatives for the firm’s alternative asset management, corporate finance, capital markets, securities, and wealth management products and services. His experience also includes roles as Chief Operating Officer, Equity Advisory at CLSA as well as several positions within the equities business at J.P. Morgan.
Originally from Canada, Michael holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategy & Innovation from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, and completed the Chief Marketing Officer Program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
